Sleep Appliances

There are lterally hundreds of sleep appliances available on the market however we only concentrate on appliances we believe to be the best in their class.

We have seen trends come and go but the reality is most effective appliances work on a single principle of mandibular advencement. A large majority of key opinion leaders now agree the appliance must be easily adjustable and a vertical component is also necessary too, this helps the appliance be effective in the long term.

At Fabdent we will make your sleep appliances direct from your Intra Oral Scans or conventional impressions/models.

Types of Sleep Appliances

Introducing EMA ® First Step, the new 90 day trial appliance  for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). You can make this custom fit oral appliance in your own practice in just 15 minutes or have us make it for you. The EMA First Step is the perfect way for your patients to discover how they can get a better night's sleep. EMA Kits are available in our online store or call/email to order.

The EMA® (Elastic Mandibular Advancement) oral appliance is a customized removable appliance created for the noninvasive treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The appliance is designed to both advance the mandible and open the bite to allow for less restricted airflow during sleep. EMA devices help promote a deeper, more restful sleep by preventing snoring and relieving the symptoms of OSA. The EMA does not interfere with breathing through the mouth, even in cases of congested nasal passages. It has many options for advancement with nine strap lengths and four different elastic tension options.Non-restricted lateral/protrusive movement and improved movements of the jaw are possible while wearing the device due to varying elastic bands.

The Digital EMA® (Elastic Mandibular Advancement) is our new breakthrough oral sleep appliance. Completely digitally designed and manufactured an ideal solution especially when designed on Intra Oral Scans. Of course we can also contruct the appliance from conventional impressions too. We can either mill using Acetyl Resin or 3D Print using our patented  Flexion 2020 material. This appliance is the most comfortable and is especially indicated for patients with compropised dentition. It is easy to fit for the patient as placing the appliance in warm water softens the appliance before insertion making it easier to place.

Function of the EMA

No appliance in place, closed airway obstructed by soft tisuues.

Elastic Mandibular Appliance in place, helps allow open free flowing airway

Adjusting EMA Appliances

EMA straps are easily replaced when warmed in hot water ( not boiling ).

The MDSA Appliance

The MDSA® ( Medical Dental Sleep Appliance ) concept was designed in conjunction with Australia's leading Dentist's, Sleep Physician's and Dental Technician's to overcome the limitations of all other appliances available to treat the needs of their patients.Over the last 15 years the MDSA® concept has been subjected to extensive scientific and clinical testing and evaluations. Manufactured from Intra Oral Scans or impressions using dual laminate hard/soft splinting material ensures the greatest retention, comfort and durability for the wearer.

An appliance manufactured with the MDSA® Components offers easy titration, full lateral and controlled vertical movement and exceptional ease in inserting each night. The patient can insert the TOP plate (which includes the Adjustor Component), then the BOTTOM plate (which includes the shelf). Push their bottom jaw forward to the full passive protrusion position and up to just engage the the adjuster component in the TOP to adust the appliance if necessary.

Tips on bite taking for sleep appliances.

Protrusive bite registration of 60%-80% of maximum protrusion. For EMA 7mm posterior opening , for MDSA 10mm anteroir opening. Also consider the patient’s range and if there is TMJ and muscular implications.

The bite registration should be taken with wax or good quality PVS bite registration material by George Gauge or similar bite fork device

The material needs to be well bonded to the bite fork and extended from anterior to posterior teeth.

If bite fork not available shaped firm wax or silicone bite regitration material can be used.

In case of missing posterior teeth (free end saddle), bite should be extended to ensure maximum support.

Ensure  the skeletal midlines are aligned when patient in protrusive position.

Ensure adequate vertical opening to accomidate appliance size.

*** Remember the relationship of the members of appliance you recieve will be as good as the bite registration you take***
